Two new sites I want to mention. One is Jenna Glatzer's and the other is The Well which I discovered via an announcement of its 20th anniversary today on Cnet.com.
Jenna is the editor-in-chief of an online writing magazine Absolute Write and I love the forum associated with it. Published authors and other writers share their knowledge freely, support each other and have fun, too. I've even started contributing there...look for posts by Dawno.
The Well is new to me but is a 20 year old online community. Think about it. 20 years ago what was the status of the personal computer? And being on-line meant dialing into a service that charged by the hour or even minute. If you lived outside of the dialing area you also paid long-distance. Modem speeds were slow. 1200baud was mentioned in the story and some even at 300. I didn't get online until 1991 and that seems like 'the old days'. Anyway, they tell their story so much better than I could, so read the anniversary posts , it's very interesting. The Well is a subscription based community to join but just to lurk and read there are a number of discussions for non-members to enjoy, even if they don't have posting rights.
Someday, maybe soon, I hope to figure out how to do more stuff here. At the very least I'd like to have links on the page and a more customized look.
