Spent part of the other evening with Erin discussing the cinematography of Oh Brother Where Art Thou. Her English assignment was to take a scene from a movie and present an analysis of the themes and the cinematography used to reinforce the themes. We spent over an hour reviewing the flood scene. Wow. Lots of great stuff to discuss about resurrection, re-birth, being lost and then finding one's way and redemption. We talked about Greek Mythology, Christianity, Rationalism and the Age of Reason...I'm really glad I got a decent liberal arts education.
Besides the obvious stuff there was a lot of interesting panning, use of lighting and POV to talk about. Plus George Clooney is hot. And that Clark Gable thing he has going on...where's my Estrovin supplement, I feel a hot flash coming on. She didn't actually include that in her analysis. I think her (female) teacher would have agreed, though.
She got an A for the presentation.
Went over to PublishAmericasucks.com and read that one of the PODettes has left. I hope she left because her conscience finally came out of that coma its been in. Then I wandered over to MakingLight, a site where the people who comment are so freakin' smart I'm intimidated just reading the dang stuff...anyway she makes mention of Publish America as well. It's sad that authors printed there are put in such a postition that they can'f comfortably mention their works as publishing credits.
As you can tell by looking at the previous month's archives I didn't succeed in writing every day but every day I wrote I did put some linkage about Publish America in my blog. I might not continue to do it every time I post but as I remember to or as I find something of interest to say about that scam publisher I'll be sure to link a good website about their terrible book publishing business.
Tonight I am morose about comment spam. I have to spend quite a bit of time I could be using to write something for this blog, or maybe even write something else worthwhile, deleting comment spam.
Why would anyone bother with my little, hardly ever hit, and never referred to on anyone else's blog, blog?? Will pedronetwork.com really get something out of posting their 'affirmations' link here? How many snowboarders are reading this now? I know, there are other reasons why this stuff happens. I just can't wrap my brain around it.
This is as beyond my ken as spam email. Is there really that one person in millions that responds to spam email thus it's a moneymaking machine dream come true earn $$$ at home in your spare time all you need is a computer and no ethics? Doesn't everyone with a pulse know that Raquel P. Biggs who got laid 3 times this week is not a close personal friend just keeping you up to date on her love life with Mr. Biggs? The 67 "Free Gift Card Confirmation #49573947" are not confirmations because, hey, I didn't order any bleeping gift cards? And the cItyBanK VeerifuCatn is not from Citibank??
This stuff is nearly as clever as PublishAmerica.
I also despise this blogging software. I won't mention the company, I'm sure it has a wonderful product for some people. Just not me. I can't do anything clever or attractive with my little site at all. It's dull. I want to post links on the side over there where it has this place it says is a place for my links. And I want colors. And I want pictures. I'm stomping my little foot now and getting very red in the face.
And another thing, the little box for writing my blog is too small and I'm going to need a new prescription for my glasses soon. I have to put in all the html tags manually, there are no clever editing thingamabobs where you just highlight and click and a little box pops up and you put in the url and voila, it's a link! grrr.
Am I complaining too much? Too bad. It's rant night. I won't do it again for a long time so if you're tempted not to come back because of the rant I promise I'll have a kinder, gentler blog next time.
To any of my friends OTR, hope you like my little blog. Please comment and let me know you were here. Or just let me know at OTR. I'd love to link to your sites and blogs...if I could...feel free to link to mine.
On a personal note: Went downstairs just now. My son says to me "I don't understand why people don't loot the turtles after they kill them." My daughter and I have talked about cinematography, modern dance and The Fountainhead today. It's a strange little family I've raised.
